OUR MISSION

Creating "Green" Community Space on the Willamette River

The mission of GAF centers on fostering healthy communities by addressing the need for an ecologically sustainable ‘green’ waterfront for St. Johns that will provide a healthy habitat for fish and wildlife, equitable public river access for community members and visitors, and environmental education.

LAND ACKNOLWEDGMENT:

We acknowledge that the GAF Site is on the traditional territory of the Cowlitz, Multnomah, and Confederated Tribes of the Grand Ronde who historically had rich fishing traditions here and who created vibrant communities that thrived and sustained life for their members for thousands of years.

WHO WE ARE

The Green Anchors Foundation is a new community-led Oregon 501c3 nonprofit organization located on a seven-acre brownfield site (referred to as Green Anchors) in the historically vibrant St. Johns riverside area of Portland, Oregon.

We support environmental education, restoring a healthy habitat for fish and wildlife and creating equitable public river access for community members and visitors.  We aim to be a community and education center for Portland, ensuring the waterfront is protected and preserved for generations to come.

We prioritize inclusive community engagement ensuring equitable access to opportunities, education and resources for all members of society. Our commitment extends to embracing marginalized lands, species and people for collective thriving.

We are proud to be part of a community of other non-profits, located on the same property, that share the vision of creating a sustainable future for the land and public.

WHERE WE ARE

GAF is a seven-acre brownfield site located at 8940 North Bradford Street on the north shore of the Willamette River, just downstream of the St. Johns Bridge, adjacent to Cathedral Park, in an urban industrial neighborhood long marginalized and overlooked that was once an economic engine for the Oregon shipbuilding and manufacturing industries.
